Grey is the New Green: Smoothie

By April 14, 2015 , , , , , No Comments
Yellow and red make orange; blue and red make purple; yellow and blue make green. what do green and purple make? Apparently grey. The smoothie craze seems to be at least partially driven by aesthetics. Who wouldn’t want to drink a bright red or purple smoothie? Many have even embraced the green smoothie. Now it’s time to enter the grey zone; my smoothie this morning was wholly unappetizing looking, but packed with nutients, and tasted pretty good. A combination of spirulina, spinach, blueberries, and maqui berry powder gave it its greyish hue.
My two go-to ingredients for smoothies are simple: a banana, and some water. I don’t use juice, yogurt, or milk alternatives. I find that water does the trick, especially when a banana is the base. My secret ingredient is a dash on cinnamon. It adds a certain Je ne sais quoi.
Here’s my recipe from this morning:

Superfood smoothie:
1 banana
1 cup water
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
handful spinach
1/4tsp each spirulina, maca, maqui berry powder
dash cinnamon

Blend, and marvel at the beauty of this smoothie:)

How did your grey smoothie go down?
