I’m taking the #gimmefive challenge in honor of the the fifth anniversary of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign. Here are my five suggestions for living a healthier life:
#1: Get outside and walk! Hippocrates said that “walking is man’s best medicine”. It really is a medicine, and needs to be taken in doses of at least a half hour a day on most days of the week. Here are some pictures from my latest walk in Encinitas:
#2: Eat more green things! St. Patty’s day just passed this year, let’s keep the green movement going. Parsley, bok choy, kiwi, lettuce, limes, kale, collards, green apples, broccoli, brussel sprouts, algae, spirulina, wheatgrass, cilantro, peppers, rosemary, these are a few of my favorite (green) things.
#3: Enjoy a sunset every now and then. Something so simple, yet so powerful for calming the mind, and soothing the soul. Who out there doesn’t love a beautiful sunset???
#4: Eat more beans!!!! Beans are packed with protein, fiber, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, and delicious taste! Pinto, black, navy, black eyeds, kidney, garbanzo, try them all! Make hummus, make burritos, make rice and beans, make chilli, eat them now and eat them often. The gas will go away, I promise!
I love my pressure cooker!
#5: take time to relax! This is so important in our increasingly busy, technology-driven lives. We need to find time to relax a little each day. We could all learn a little about the art of relaxation from our furry friends; my cats Mu and Wu are excellent at it:
